Class #1
Lessons Learned from 20 Years of Large Scale Fire Testing
Presenter: Daniel R. Steppan, UL LLC

Abstract: UL’s large scale fire test facilities in Northbrook, IL became operational in 1996. In the years just prior to and subsequent to this event, new storage sprinkler technology has been developed that has been cost-effective and significantly enhanced the protection afforded for storage facilities. In addition, much has been learned regarding fire behavior and many of the important variables associated with conducting fire tests that involve sprinkler protection. A broad range of topics will be discussed during this session (along with highlight fire test videos) including Chapter 21 of NFPA 13-2016, storage sprinkler technology, antifreeze, commodity testing and other topics of interest.

Class #2
The most common 15 deficiencies on a fire sprinkler plan
This class will review the information missing or incorrect on a typical sprinkler plan. The student will learn the type of information required and what most plan reviewers will accept.
Presenter: Richard A. Piccolo – B & F Construction Code Services, Inc.

Abstract: B & F Construction Code Services, Inc. started when Richard A. Piccolo, company president, began to operate a freelance inspection business. Already employed full time with the Elk Grove Village Fire Department as a firefighter, lieutenant and public educator, Mr. Piccolo performed inspections during his time off. His devotion to continuing education and attaining high professional standards, created a wealth of new business opportunities and he was able to turn his side business into a full-time job.

A certified instructor, Mr. Piccolo has taught training seminars nationwide in all the model building codes and served as adjunct faculty at William Rainey Harper College for a number of years. With that type of expertise, it became obvious the next area of growth should come from providing training and continuing education for professionals in code-related careers.

We look forward to seeing you on March 13th.
